Thomas Kevin Orr of Carmel, Indiana, born November 29, 1955, has passed into Jesus’ arms peacefully on February 17, 2017. Tom was preceded in death by his mother Patricia Orr. Tom is survived by wife, Sakurako of Carmel, son Daniel (Lindy) of Lebanon, daughter Christine of Carmel, granddaughter Ellis of Lebanon, father Allen (Peggy) of Lafayette, sister Cindy Cohn (Robert) of Chesterton, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He faithfully pursued Jesus and humbly served others. As an accomplished professor in Japan, he ministered to many students and colleagues together with his best friend and wife, Sakurako. Romans 8:28, “[a]nd we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose” was his and his wife’s life verse which they held onto in every season of their life.

Tom victoriously finished his race the Lord Jesus has given him. His finishing is well summarized in 2 Timothy? ?4:6-8? which reads “…and the time for my departure is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day…”

There is no possible way for me to express my Deepest Sympathy to Tom’s wife, Sakurako, and his children, Daniel & Christine. Tom was a Great Man and an even Greater Man of God. He is now looking down from his Heavenly Home on ALL of his Family and friends. He will be missed by everyone that had the pleasure of knowing him in this world. I am so sorry to learn that Tom has died, but I know he is in Heaven now and enjoying finding all his far-flung acquaintances! I have seldom known a kinder, gentler, more thoughtful man. He loved his family, loved his students, encouraged his colleagues, and lived out his faith. Thank God for his life and lessons that will be remembered.
My most sincere condolences to his family.

I’m so very sorry. I knew Tom during my time as a graduate student at Ball State. He was such a kind, amazing man, always working hard, and always taking time for his family. I so enjoyed watching his family come to be. I will always treasure our memories as we were learning to be ourselves.
